Join the Army and you could end up blasting home the goals into the enemy net.
Even if you’re a hot-shot striker or fearsome keeper, you’ll need more than just skill to make it into the Army Senior Football Team. You’ll need the right attitude. Not least, team spirit, leadership and discipline – the same qualities that make a soldier.
The Army plays 14 matches a season against county sides. Most members also play for their regiments and corps. The best of the best get to face the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy – or even international teams.
Lance Corporal Danny Haley, who plays centre midfield, tells us what it takes.
"You'll need team
spirit, leadership
and discipline"
You’ve played against Man United, haven't you?
"Yeah. I left school at 16 to join Wigan Athletic and play football full time. My trial match was against Manchester United and I played against the likes of Wes Browne. I was in the England U15s team with Joe Cole, too."
